Reincarnation recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

We are extremely honored and happy to announce the recognition by His Holiness the Dalai Lama of the reincarnation of our beloved Geshe Jampa Gyatso, the first abbot of the Lhungtok Choekhorling Monastery and resident Master of the Lama Tsong Khapa Institute for 27 years. To this day, Geshe-la is remembered by his many disciples as a tireless guide and an endless example of loving kindness and compassion, always at the service of others.
Since 2007, the year Geshe Jampa Gyatso passed away, Ven. Massimo Stordi—his principal secretary for over twenty-five years—has coordinated the search for his reincarnation, including requesting divinations to aid the process. To support his swift rebirth, he has also commissioned numerous Pujas (prayers and ceremonies) in the most significant monasteries of South India.
Geshe Jampa Gyatso, while living in Pomaia, has always been involved in contributing to the livelihood of the monks of House Number 3, his residence in Sera Jey, Bylakuppe, India, and since his passing, as the Monastic Sangha Association, we have been involved in the renovation and maintenance of the House, with help and contributions from the Italian Buddhist Union.
In May 2023, during one of our meetings, His Holiness the Dalai Lama reaffirmed his commitment to recognize him, asking us for a list of possible candidates. Finally, in February of this year, the Dalai Lama indicated little Tsering Dorje as the true and authentic reincarnation..

The Recognition Ceremony was held on March 28 at House Number 3, where Tsering Dorje was presented with a letter from His Holiness the Dalai Lama from which he learned that he is the reincarnation of Geshe Jampa Gyatso.
Only after this step, we were finally able to officially communicate the event which, in accordance with tradition, required great confidentiality.
The ceremony was attended by: Ven. Massimo Stordi, who continues to serve as the principal secretary for the new reincarnation; the leaders of Jadhel Khangtsen (his monastic college at Sera Jey); the Geshes of House No. 3; Jinpa Santu Lama, who played a key role in the organization; Manuela Ferro, Vice President of the Sangha Foundation ETS; as well as Lucia Landi, President, and Valerio Tallarico, Director, representing the Lama Tzong Khapa Institute.

We were deeply moved to discover the remarkable story of Tsering Dorje. Rinpoche was born in a small village in the mountains of Aranuchal Pradesh, an Indian state bordering Tibet and is now 11 years old.
Tsering arrived at Sera Jey thanks to the heartfelt pleas of his older brother, Tenzin Gyatso, who was already a monk and a resident of House No. 3. Their family, living in extreme poverty, entrusted them to the monastery to ensure their survival and provide them with an education. The monks also took responsibility for their younger sister, Pema Tsomo, enrolling her at the Tibetan Children's Village (TCV) in Bylakuppe, just a few kilometers from the monastery. The hardships they faced at a young age have forged a deep and enduring bond between the siblings.
Despite the great joy of finding Rinpoche, we all agree on the absolute necessity of ensuring his growth in a familiar and simple environment, allowing him to continue his studies at Sera Jey School alongside his classmates.
