Meeting with Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche

The importance of having a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the West

Where did this meeting originate?

Last year in Dharamsala we had a meeting with Serkong Rinpoche during which we presented the developments of the Monastery project.
Rinpoche, on that occasion, told us in advance that he would come to visit Pomaia in July 2024, at the invitation of the Lama Tsongkhapa Institute, and so we asked him for a meeting for the Sangha and the friends of the Monastery, which Rinpoche welcomed with joy and immediate availability.

Always very close to the Monastery Project, Rinpoche gave Ven. Massimo Stordi valuable advice regarding the internal organization of the Monastery itself, and also great encouragement for the continuation of the project, which having been blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama , has all the favorable conditions to be achieved.

Information to participate

We are happy to inform you that Monday 29 July, 8:30 in the morning, on the Land of Olive Trees of the Sangha Foundation, Serkong Rinpoche will share with our Sangha and all the friends of the Monastery a speech on “The value of having a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in our country".

Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche

At the age of two, Tsenshab Serkong Rinpoche II (b. 1984) pointed to the photo of the Deputy Guardian of XIV Dalai Lama recently passed away and stated: “It's me!”. Recognized as the reincarnation of the previous Tsenshab Serkong Rinpoche, he began his Buddhist training at Ganden Jangtse Monastery in southern India. Subsequently, he decided to continue practicing the Dharma as a layman, completing his training at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala. On the advice of the Dalai Lama, he studied English in Canada for two years and continued his education in higher Buddhist studies.

Tsenshab Serkong Rinpoche I

Kyabje Serkong Tsenshab Tugse Rinpoche was born on 27 July 1914 in Loka, southern Tibet. Son of the great master Serkong Dorjee Chang, incarnation of Marpa the translator, and his wife Dagmema, incarnation of Marpa's wife, he was recognized as the incarnation of Marpa's son Dharmadode. He studied with masters of all the main traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and earned the title of Geshe Lharampa at the Ganden Jangtse Monastic University after fourteen years of study. He held significant roles in the Gyume tantric college and was appointed in 1948 as one of the seven spiritual assistants of the XIV Dalai Lama.

Serkong Rinpoche served the Dalai Lama by imparting many lineages, initiations, and oral transmissions, even accompanying him during his exile in India in 1959. He worked to establish the Office of Religious and Cultural Affairs and was one of the Dalai Lama's principal advisors. He traveled to India, Nepal, North America and Europe to teach and help monasteries re-establish their rituals. He died on August 20, 1983 in Kyipar, Spiti, India, leaving a legacy of humility and dedication. The Dalai Lama praised him as a true Geshe Kadampa.
