A treasured friend and a professional of another era

H.E. Ling Rinpoche with Mauro Ciampa on the Monastery hill, 2018
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Architect Mauro Ciampa, who left us on 31st May 2025. Mauro, with deep dedication and kindness, oversaw the planning of our Monastery, including the urban design and implementation plan. More recently, together with his daughter, Architect Chiara Ciampa, he developed and presented the project for the Park of Contemplation and Peace within our grounds.
A professional of remarkable competence and generosity, he was also a man of great heart and a true friend of the Sangha. We fondly recall his meetings with Geshe Jampa Gyatso, which always began with playful exchanges about his surname Ciampa, which sounds like Jampa.
Born in Pisa, Mauro left a lasting mark on the urban architecture of Tuscany. His career was guided by a constant attention to environmental and cultural context.
Among his many works, we also remember the redevelopment project of the Pisa dockyard, designed to enhance the area in harmony with the local community.
He was a man of another time, able to combine technical rigour with profound human sensitivity. His passion, his dedication, and his spirit of collaboration have left an indelible mark on our project and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
All of us, the monks and nuns of the Fondazione Sangha ETS and the Associazione Monastica Sangha Lhungtok Choekhorling, hold him with affection and gratitude in our daily prayers, confident that his deep motivation will continue to inspire us on our path.
