On a bright morning in Dharamsala, Friday 4 April, we had the precious opportunity to accompany Tsering Dorje Rinpoche — the recognised reincarnation of Geshe Jampa Gyatso — for an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at His residence.
As is customary during the daily public audiences, hundreds of people from all over the world arrive wearing the finest traditional clothing of their traditions, to offer their greetings and offerings, and to receive blessings and advice from His Holiness.

This was the young Rinpoche’s first personal meeting with the Dalai Lama. On this occasion, a request was made — although Rinpoche has already received monastic vows from the Abbot of Sera Jey — for His Holiness to renew the traditional hair-cutting ritual and to bestow upon him a new, auspicious name in accordance with tradition.
A photo of Geshe Jampa Gyatso was shown to His Holiness, who recognised him. Looking at the young Rinpoche, He placed His forehead gently against the child's as a gesture of greeting and blessing, and recited prayers for some time.
These were profoundly moving and powerful moments, at the end of which the Dalai Lama bestowed upon him the name Tenzin Lodoe — a name that will accompany him throughout his life.

Rinpoche was accompanied by his family and his teacher, Geshe Nyima, as well as by Geshe Tenzin Norbu, who is responsible for his residence; Venerable Massimo Stordi of the Monastic Sangha Lhungtok Choekorling Association; Manuela Ferro of the Sangha Foundation; and Lobsang Jinpa — all of whom helped to organise the meeting.
Tenzin Lodoe Rinpoche and his brother Tenzin Gyatso, deeply moved and overjoyed by this meeting, allowed themselves to express their joyful emotion.
During the event, we had protective cords blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which we will distribute at the first opportunity in Pomaia.
